Abstract (english) With the aim of a deeper understanding of the pregnancy experience from a male perspective, we conducted a qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews. The study included 11 first-time expectant fathers with an average age of 26,8 years and an average duration of partner's pregnancy of 6,5 months. Using the method of descriptive thematic analysis, we identified 8 thematic areas that were classified into three main topics: Self-perception in pregnancy, Perception of partner in pregnancy and Perception of partnership in pregnancy. According to the results, it is apparent the period of pregnancy is a special experience for men which brings different emotional, psychological and behavioural changes that prepare them for the new and unknown role of a father. One of the most significant changes is the increased sense of responsibility and concern for partner and child. During pregnancy, men express a high degree of satisfaction with partner changes, including physical, emotional and behavioural. The changes that women undergo in pregnancy affect men's perception of them as a future caring mother, partner and strong individuals. Still, there are some challenges in pregnancy which point out the negative influence of hormones on partner behaviour, which makes partner more demanding, having higher expectations and needs. During pregnancy, men clear up the image of their partner as a mother, whereby all men have high confidence in their partner as a caring mother. As for the effects of pregnancy on partner relationships, most men point out that they feel increased closeness and partnership with the partner, which makes the relationship better and with higher quality. Furthermore, partners hold on together preparing for parenting through increased conversations about the child and child's influence on partnership.
