Abstract „Idiopatske upalne bolesti crijeva (eng. inflammatory bowel disease – IBD) su genetski, imunološki i histopatološki heterogena skupina upalnih bolesti karakterizirani kroničnom ili relapsnom imunom aktivacijom i upalom u gastrointestinalnom traktu“. (5)
Kvaliteta života definira se kao sveukupno blagostanje koje uključuje objektivne čimbenike i subjektivno vrednovanje fizičkog, materijalnog, socijalnog i emotivnog blagostanja uz osobni razvoj i svrhovitu aktivnost promatrano kroz osobni sustav vrijednosti pojedinca. (10)
Abstract (english) „Idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are a genetic, immunological and histopathologically heterogeneous group of inflammatory diseases characterized by chronic or relapsive immune activation and inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract.“ (5)
Inflammatory bowel diseases include Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease and Unclassified Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Ulcerative colitis is described as chronic inflammation of the rectum and colon mucosa with present remissions and relapses of the disease.
Crohn's disease is characterized by transmural inflammation and discontinuity of inflammatory changes that may interfere with any part of the digestive tube, from anus to mouth.
Quality of life is defined as a total well-being that includes objective factors and subjective valuation of physical, material, social and emotional well-being with personal development and purposeful activity observed through the personal system of individual values.
The aim of this study was to examine the quality of life of patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease and to check for differences in quality of life depending on the form of inflammatory bowel disease, sex and life habits of the affected.
For the purpose of this research, the aim of the graduate thesis was to produce a survey that measures the quality of life of patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease.
The survey contains a total of 27 questions grouped in 6 questionnaires, each section being related to a certain aspect of the quality of life of patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease.
A total of 50 respondents were surveyed. All subjects were patients with diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease. Two respondents were excluded from further processing due to incorrect filing of the survey, so a total of 48 respondents were involved in the survey.
There was no statistically significant difference between individuals suffering from Ulcerative Colitis and those with Crohn's disease or in one aspect of the quality of life of our subjects.
As far as gender differences are concerned, research has shown that women, in comparison to men, have had more frequent symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease that occurred two weeks back and preceeded our research.
Further, the results of research have shown that there is a statistically significant difference between smokers and non-smokers in age and education, fear of surgeries, and problems in maintaining body weight in favor of smokers.
Also the results have shown that there is a statistically significant difference between people that consume alcohol and people who do not consume alcohol in problems with sexual activity due to digestive problems.
Alcohol consumers people have fewer problems with sexual activity due to digestive problems compared to people who do not consume alcohol.
In other aspects of the quality of life, there was no statistically significant difference between alcohol consumers and non alcohol consumers not in one aspect of quality of life.
