This graduate thesis deals with the political and social relations of two neighboring Zagrebian settlements - the Free and royal town of Gradec and the canonical and episcopal Kaptol during the service of the Zagrebian bishops Eberhard and John Alben (1937-1433). Analyzing the medieval relationship between the two Zagreb settlements, historiography placed the greatest focus on their mutual disputes and conflicts, which were caused by issues of border lines, property ownership and the right to collect market fees from the Gradec fairs. In addition to mutual elements, their relationship was influenced by external factors - the king, the Croatian-Slavonic ban and the prefect. From the end of the 14th to the middle of the 15th century, the Hungarian king Sigismund of Luxembourg and the bishops of Zagreb, Eberhard and John Alben, who were also the king's loyal officials, had a great influence on the formation and course of relations between Gradec and Kaptol. First, the paper will analyze the economic and structural relationship between Gradac and Kaptol. Then the chronological course of relations between the two Zagrebian settlements will be presented, and the main part of the paper will deal with the relations between the two settlements during the episcopal service of Eberhard and Ivan Alben, in which the king's giving of Gradec as a pledge to the mentioned bishops will be discussed and what was the attitude of bishops Eberhard and Ivan . Albena to the citizens of Gradac and the Zagreb canons.
