Cilj istraživanja: ispitati razinu kvalitete života starijih osoba (>65) na području Međimurske županije u vrijeme pandemije Covid 19, kroz procjenu zdravstvenog stanja i funkcionalne sposobnosti ispitanika.
Bolji rezultati u pojedinim aspektima (npr. tjelesno, socijalno funkcioniranje, energija, emocionalna dobrobit) pozitivnije utječu na ostale aspekte u funkcioniranju i samim time označavaju bolju kvalitetu života.
Abstract (english) Introduction: The share of elderly people in the world is increasing, so it is becoming a global trend that is causing more and more changes in social and economic relations. The Covid 19 pandemic especially affects the elderly. Elderly people who are cared for in homes for the elderly and infirm are particularly sensitive to the negative outcomes of the Covid 19 pandemic. It is assumed that the introduction of the measures had an effect on increasing the feeling of loneliness and social isolation of the elderly, which could affect the mental and physical health of the elderly. person, and thus to a reduction in the quality of life
The aim of the research: to examine the quality of life of elderly people (>65) in Međimurje County during the Covid 19 pandemic, through the assessment of the health condition and functional capacity of the examinee.
Methods: The research was conducted in the period from March to June 2022 in the Home for the Elderly and Infirm "Novinščak" and in the Home for the Elderly and Infirm "Stubičar" in Međimurje County using the SF-36 questionnaire for assessing the quality of life and using Barthel's scales for assessing the functional ability of the elderly.
Results: A total of 102 respondents aged >65 participated in the research, of which 77 (75.5%) were female and 25 (24.5%) were male. The average age of the participants was M=82.58 (SD=6.13). The results show that men rate general health better (M=49.80, Sd=13.34) than women (M=49.80, Sd=40.00). Overall, the majority of respondents have a relatively poor perception of their own health, with no significant deterioration of health, and thus quality of life, over the past year (during the Covid 19 pandemic), and no gender difference in this regard.
Conclusion: research has proven the connection between physical health, social functioning, emotions, etc. Better results in certain aspects (e.g. physical, social functioning, energy, emotional well-being) have a more positive effect on other aspects of functioning and therefore indicate a better quality of life. Analyzing the results using the t test proved that men are significantly more satisfied in many aspects of life and that they rate the quality of life better than women. No statistically significant differences were found in the assessment of functional abilities, and the majority of respondents are moderately dependent on the help of others. The application of
validated tests did not establish a significant impact of the pandemic on the evaluation of the health status/quality of life of the respondents.
