Općenito, ljudi s višom razinom neuroticizma i otvorenosti bili su pod većim stresom i usamljeniji, a oni s višim povjerenjem u insitucije i višom savjesnosti, pod manjim stresom i manje usamljeni. Također, ispitanici viši na dimenziji ugodnosti više su bili pod stresom, a ekstravertiraniji više usamljeni.
Abstract (english) Throughout human histroy there have been numerous major and minor epidemics and pandemics which have always had a negative impact on humanity to a greater or lesser extent. Disease outbreaks cause massive and lasting consequences on people, and change their everyday life. This consequences can potentially be: increased perceived stress (manifested as a state in which a person lacks resources to deal with a certain situation, and consequently perceives it as threatening), a lack of trust in institutions of one's country, and an increased subjective feeling of loneliness (a cognitive and affective feeling of discomfort which occurs due to the perception of loneliness). The expression of these phenomena largely depends on the person's personality traits, so depending on the dominant personality trait, people will experience each consequence to a lesser or greater extent.
The aim of this research was to examine the connection between personality traits, trust in institutions and stress and loneliness during the Covid 19 pandemic. The problems of this research were: to examine the relationship between personality traits and stress and loneliness during the Covid 19 pandemic, to examine the relationship between trust in institutions and stress and loneliness during the Covid 19 pandemic, and to examine the contribution of personality traits and trust in institutions in explaining perceived stress and loneliness during the Covid 19 pandemic. The instruments used were personality assesment questionnaire (BFI-S), a short loneliness scale (SLON-3), a perceived stress scale (PSS-10), and a six item questionnaire which measured trust in the government and the health system. The results showed that there is a very low and negative correlation between openness to experience and perceived stress, and agreeableness, conscientiousness and perceived stress. Loneliness was positively associated with extraversion and openness to experience, and negatively with conscientiousness. Furthermore, neuroticism, openness to experience and agreeableness proved to be positive predictors of hapiness, while conscientiousness and trust in institutions were negative predictors. In general, people with higher levels of neuroticism and openness experienced more stress and loneliness, and those with higher trust in institutions and higher conscientiousness experienced less stress and loneliness. Also respondents higher on the dimension of agreeableness were more stressed and those more extraverted were lonelier.
