Abstract | U svrhu izrade diplomskog rada provedeno je kvalitativno istraživanje s metodom polustrukturiranog intervjua. Doprinos socijalizaciji djece i mladih s teškoćama u razvoju pomažu volonteri koji ulažu svoje osobno vrijeme, znanje, trud i vještine (Skočić Mihić, 2011: 579). |
Abstract (english) | For the purpose of writing the thesis, qualitative research was conducted using the semi-structured interview method. The general goal of the research is to learn about the role of volunteers in socialization with children and young people with developmental disabilities and the benefits that result from this work. The role of volunteers is to provide support to vulnerable groups such as the homeless, refugees, the elderly, people with disabilities, volunteers provide emotional support, education or any other type of support that is needed (Kamenko Mayer and Kovačević, 2022). Through volunteering, children with disabilities as well as volunteers have the opportunity to meet and interact with different people. The benefits of volunteering are positive effects on individuals and communities because through the feeling of satisfaction we fulfill primarily ourselves. We improve the development of skills such as organizational, communication and team work. Through volunteer work, volunteers play a role in the socialization of children and youth with developmental disabilities. Through various activities, they connect with children and young people, strengthen empathy, understanding and create solidarity towards others. In the sociological discipline, when studying these topics, emphasis is placed on socialization because an individual develops personality traits through processes that make him different from others (Haralambos and Holborn, 2002: 4). Contribution to the socialization of children and young people with developmental disabilities is helped by volunteers who invest their personal time, knowledge, effort and skills (Skočić Mihić, 2011: 579). The participants are young volunteers and parent volunteers in the age range of 29 to 39 with long experience. Qualitative research has shown that different educational status includes different financial incomes that affect volunteer work, as well as the financial situation of volunteer parents in the education of their own children with developmental disabilities. Due to the lack of motivation, the number of volunteers in Croatia is insufficient, and the awareness of volunteering needs to be activated. The benefits of volunteering are multiple, as involvement in volunteering can be an enriching experience for the volunteer and the parent volunteer with a child with developmental disabilities. In addition to the many advantages and difficulties of volunteering, volunteering can provide a significant contribution to the socialization of an individual through interaction with different people, which leaves a positive effect on children and youth with developmental disabilities. It is important to emphasize the great role of parents, who through their activism influence changes and improve the conditions for raising children. |
