Previous research which examined the effects of parenting styles, attachment styles, and loneliness on alcohol dependence reported a positive correlation between a secure attachment style and alcohol addiction prevention, a negative correlation between an authoritative parenting style and excessive alcohol consumption, and a connection between alcoholism and dissatisfaction with the relationships quality with others. The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between the constructs of parenting style, family loneliness, attachment styles, and the level of alcoholism in individuals with alcohol addiction. The clinical sample consisted of 60 participants, individuals undergoing treatment for alcoholism, but due to incomplete questionnaire responses, 9 participants were excluded from further analysis, resulting in a final sample size of 51. The sample was collected at one hospital in Zagreb at the Department for alcoholism. All research participants completed the Severity Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire, Measure of parental style, Relationship Questionnaire, Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults and a Sociodemographic Characteristics Questionnaire constructed for the purpose of this empirical research. The results of the research presented in this paper indicate that the dysfunctional parenting style is a statistically significant, positive predictor of the degree of alcohol dependence. However, there is an absence of statistical significance for the predictors of family loneliness and attachment styles. Nevertheless, in this study, a statistically significant difference in the degree of dependence was found between the secure attachment style and three attachment styles (fearful, preoccupied, and dismissive) grouped as insecure attachment styles, such that participants with a secure style scored lower on the degree of alcohol dependence compared to participants with insecure attachment styles.
