Sudionici su ispunjavali Upitnik kognitivnih strategija emocionalne regulacije (Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire – CERQ), Upitnik kvalitete života Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije (World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref – WHOQOL-BREF) i upitnik sociodemografskih podataka.
Abstract (english) The veterans experience of direct participation in the war, and the integration process they faced after the end of the war has influenced their perception of family and friends, as well as their own role in society. While rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
vary, the overall prevalence is 3.9%, whereas the prevalence in conflict-affected populations is 11%, and among veterans and other professionals exposed to trauma risks, rates are even higher. Nevertheless, many still exhibit significant symptoms that impact psychological functioning, physical health, and social relationships. Quality of life is an assessment of satisfaction with one's way of life and the conditions affecting it, formed through an individual's evaluation of various life aspects. The quality of life of veterans has been found to be lower compared to the general population. Cognitive emotional regulation strategies involve changing the way an individual perceives the situation they are in.
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between sociodemographic factors cognitive emotional regulation strategies and quality of life in Croatian veterans. The study involved 159 Croatian veterans. Participants completed the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire, and a socio-demographic data questionnaire.
The results indicate a significant positive correlation between four adaptive cognitive emotional regulation strategies (positive refocusing, planning, positive reappraisal, and putting into perspective) and quality of life, as well as a significant negative correlation between two maladaptive cognitive emotional regulation strategies (catastrophizing and blaming others) and quality of life. Significant predictors of quality of life were putting into perspective as a positive predictor and catastrophizing as a negative one, while other influences were not significant. The entire model explained 39% of the variance in quality of life.
