Abstract Cerebrovaskularne bolesti sve su učestalije u suvremenom svijetu, a uključuju, između ostalog, i moždane aneurizme, tj, proširenja stijenke krvnih žila, čija ruptura dovodi do subarahnoidalnog krvarenja (SAH), što često zahtijeva hitno neurokirurško liječenje.
Abstract (english) Cerebrovascular diseases are becoming more common in the modern world and include, among other things, aneurysms, ie dilation of blood vessel walls, the rupture of which leads to subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), which often requires urgent neurosurgical treatment. The consequences are manifested in a number of cognitive deficits, of which learning and memory deficits are very common. The aim of this study was to examine characteristics of verbal learning and memory in patients after cerebral aneurysm surgery. Two research problems were defined, of which the first was to identify possible deficits of numerical short-term and working memory, verbal-mechanical learning and memory (curve and learning capacity, short-term and long-term memory) and verbal-logical short-term memory in patients after cerebral aneurysm surgery. The second research problem was to examine the predictive contribution to demographic variables (gender, age, education) as well as localization and lateralization of aneurysms with numerical and working memory deficits, verbal-mechanical learning capaciy and short-term and long-term memory, and verbal-logical short-term memory in patients after cerebral aneurysm surgery. The research presents the results of neuropsychological tests 1-6 months after brain aneurysm surgery in the last 10 years at the Clinic for Neurosurgery of the Medical Faculty of the University of Zagreb, Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb. The results indicated the existence of a deficit of short-term verbal-logical memory, while in other types of verbal learning and memory, the respondents achieved the expected results in accordance with the norms. Gender and age proved to be significant predictors for verbal-mechanical memory capacity, and for short-term and long-term verbal-mechanical memory, with women and younger respondents achieving better results compared to men and older respondents. Also, years of education proved to be a significant predictor of working memory, as well as short-term and long-term verbal-mechanical memory and verbal-logical short-term memory, with respondents with more years of education achieving better results on tasks of these types of verbal learning and memory. Localization and lateralization of aneurysms have not been shown to be significant predictors for any type of verbal learning and memory.
