Abstract (english) BACKGROUND: Movement is one of the basic human needs, movement maintains health. Joint diseases greatly reduce the mobility of patients and their quality of life. Advanced hip osteoarthritis is the most common reason for implantation of a total hip endoprosthesis. In order to improve the performance of daily activities, reduce pain, increase mobility, and ultimately improve the quality of life, patients decide to have surgery to install a total hip endoprosthesis.
AIM: Determine the difference in quality of life before and after hip implantation.
METHODS: The group of subjects consisted of 50 patients who underwent surgical treatment for degenerative hip diseases. Data were collected by the General Data Questionnaire and the SF-36 Questionnaire.
RESULTS: Women get sick more often, in 62% of cases the respondents were women and 38% men. The survey shows that 62% of respondents were aged 65 and over, 34% aged 50-64, and only 4% of respondents under the age of 50. Before surgery, 48.98% of patients had very severe pain, while these pains after surgery and recovery were reduced to mildly ( 36.73%) or none (46.98%). Subjects significantly had more physical difficulties prior to endoprosthesis implantation. They had the most problems with physically strenuous activities (86%), bending, kneeling or bending (84%), walking more than one kilometer (80%), and moderately strenuous activities (78%). After the implantation of the endoprosthesis, the physical health difficulties were greatly reduced. Likewise, subjects had significantly fewer difficulties in their work and daily activities after surgery and recovery than they had before surgery.
CONCLUSION: The results of the research suggest that the implantation of a hip endoprosthesis significantly improves the quality of life and that the pain is significantly reduced or completely eliminated.
