Introduction: Esthetic surgery is a popular practice in Western modern society whose development in recent decades has enabled various transformations of the body and physical appearance. This thesis deals with aesthetic surgery in the context of an interactionist perspective which means that it considers the relationship of the individual and society in forming an image of oneself in the field of the body. The topic of cosmetic surgery was approached interdisciplinary, including the field of nursing and sociology. Aim: The aim of this research is to examine the contribution of esthetic surgery in forming an individual image of oneself within an interactionist perspective. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using the semi-structured interview method, including six participants who underwent one of the invasive aesthetic procedures (rhinoplasty in two participants, breast augmentation, breast reduction, bimaxillary osteotomy and otoplasty), which was also a criterion. Results: The obtained results indicated the importance of social, health and aesthetic factors in the motivation of participants for aesthetic procedures. Of particular importance for the topic of this paper was the finding that the participants' perception and satisfaction with their own body changed after the aesthetic procedure was undertaken, largely under the influence of the comments of the environment. In this way, it was determined that the participant's image of himself is an interactive product of not only personal but also social factors. Conclusion: The potential "self-image" can be changed and refined using invasive methods of changing one's own body. Modern cosmetic surgery contributes to the formation of an image of oneself, and the overall view of one's own body. The obtained results can be summarized as it is important for the body in modern Croatian society to further investigate what this interdisciplinary approach sought to contribute.
